Before seeing Helen I was not only suffering from Vulvodynia but also Vaginismus. It hurt me to wear a tampon, and my body/vulva would involuntarily close up if anything came within two inches of it. Thankfully I had a super understanding boyfriend! I had heard about women’s health physiotherapy through the VPS support group. All of the ladies I had spoken to, said it was one of the things that had helped them the most. I remember feeling a bit taken aback when the women in the group explained what the physio involved. I couldn’t imagine having something so intimate, done to me by a stranger. The treatment has been truly great. From the very beginning Helen put any worries I had to ease and really took the time to understand my condition. She was confident she could make me better and although a little skeptical, I put my trust in her hands. Physio was slightly painful to begin with – nearly of my muscles down there had become so tense and knotted over the years, but gradually with each session the pain eased.
Helen set me homework which included using dialators and doing pelvic floor exercises. She also performed acupuncture on me too which helped. I now only experience pain in two tiny areas on touch, and lucky for me, they don’t cause me any grief during sex. For something that seemed very alien to me at first, physio has turned into being one of the most normal things ever. I now really look forward to my sessions. Helen is such an awesome physio – super skilled at what she does and I get on with her so well. The best thing- From being able to chat to someone with a medical background about my condition who truly understands, through to seeing the progress month on month.
The one best result though, has to be getting pregnant!! Before physio, I didn’t think I’d be able to have sex again, let alone get pregnant. So this really is a true blessing 🙂
I owe so much to Helen – she’s a little miracle worker!
