When I began my treatment with Helen I was coming up to 4 years post baby 2. Under treatment from a previous physio, I had addressed some occasional stress incontinence and made good improvements to my diastasis recti. However, I still had an area around my bellybutton which was soft, squishy and unable to generate tension. When I crunched up, this would bulge. Going into double table top position, with both legs lifted off the floor, knees bent, was impossible. This made me very self-conscious in my work as a personal trainer because, while coaching clients through various progressions of core exercise, I was aware that I myself was unable to do precisely what I was trying to get them to.

My main concern before starting treatment was that Helen wouldn’t be able to help me improve my diastasis and that I would forever have to modify certain exercises and avoid certain positions. Within a few minutes of examining my abdomen, though, and observing the coordination of my core, Helen confidently declared that we would definitely be able to get it better. And her confidence was infectious!

Treatment with Helen has been so enjoyable, because she fills you with confidence that you can overcome your dysfunction and get to where you want to be. When you’re feeling a bit deflated that your body isn’t doing what you need and want it to do, this is enormously empowering. At the time of writing I have had three sessions with Helen and, already, my diastasis is SO much more functional. With just 15 repetitions of one exercise to do morning and night – easy peasy to it around my work and family life – I am for the first time, since pre-babies, able to get good tension in the bellybutton area; no more squidginess! Helen modestly says, “It’s easy when you know how” but this massively plays down the breadth of her clinical experience and ability to communicate in a way that makes it easy for you to ‘get it’, like a massive penny dropping.

The one best result I’ve gained from treatment is the feeling of strength that comes from having a core unit which is coordinating effectively. For me, this was not about aesthetics, but about getting functional. My husband keeps catching me touching my bellybutton because it really does feel too good to be true! Thank you, Helen.

I’m happy to be able to tell you that I am now pain-free! I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know how much you are appreciated. You gave me back a part of my life I thought I’d lost. There are no words that can express the gratitude I feel. I’m so thankful to have found you to help me back to normality from a place no woman should have to endure .

Finding Helen was a breakthrough for me, by that time I’d had Chronic Pelvic Pain for two years. I’d been to my GP, seen a Gynaecologist, a Pain Management Consultant, been checked out for ovarian cancer and had a couple of X-rays. My GP’s advice was ‘sometimes we don’t find the origin of the pain, I’m afraid you’ll have to live with it’… I was more afraid than him I’m 100% sure of that!

Chronic pain changes you in many ways, Helen has guided me back to my old self (young at heart, but in my 60’s). She is a mine of information, a consummate professional, I’ve asked a lot of questions during my treatment, Helen knew why I was in pain, and how to deal with it, she has a gentle manner and put me at ease from the very beginning, Helen listened where others hadn’t, she also gave me hope. It has been a long journey for me but I’m almost there, I know so much more about my body, I feel stronger and more confident in myself. Women’s Health Physio is not available widely, it should be!

Helen is truly one in a million, I’m so grateful I found her.

April 2018

Before finding Helen I had pretty much given up on thinking I would ever feel comfortable or pain free when it came to sex.  Having been through numerous diagnoses with ineffective and invasive treatments or had my pain constantly dismissed and even told once that “other women had it much worse so I should really try and move forward ” I had pretty much given up.  My (extremely patient) boyfriend and I had a dream of marriage and babies and I thought I would lose it all, but then I found Helen!  As soon as I met her I knew I had made the right choice.  She made me feel at ease and was so sympathetic to my experience, never once diminishing it.  She always answered my questions fully, never rushing and despite the treatment being very “up close and personal” she was so personable but professional.  Her knowledge is endless and so helpful and her optimism on my recovery was so encouraging.  And even better, it was spot on!  I was able to recover just as she predicted and with the treatments and at home “exercises” she taught me, I no longer live in fear of getting to that painful place again.  She is nothing short of incredible,  Through my journey with Helen I got engaged and married to the love of my life and the reality of children now look very real to us.  Helen truly does life changing work

February 2018

Helen was recommended to me by a friend/pilates teacher who had seen me struggle in yoga recently to find alignment.  I knew my hip was hurting and my back was sore but wasn’t sure why.  In my first treatment, Helen spent a good deal of time listening to me and trying to understand what I was feeling.  She asked me to show her where I was struggling and also asked when we would know if things had changed following treatment.  I saw Helen 4 times in total and as well as gently working towards our goal of alignment she also treated me for a trapped nerve in my neck (a result of a long term disc issue).  Each time she was gentle but firm in her hands on treatment but also explained exactly what she was doing, why, and gave me exercises to practice at home.
After 4 treatments, I was able to do the yoga pose we’d identified as an illustration of the pain and difficulty I had been experiencing previously and we agreed that I didn’t need any more sessions.  I would feel very confident going back to Helen if necessary and would recommend her to anyone who is looking for a solution to issues that they haven’t managed to address elsewhere.
